Use designated parking only and follow the official maps for the specific parcel you are riding. Shared-use courtesy matters, and seasonal hunting notices are especially important here because several sections of the park are open to hunting under DEEP rules.

This is not the sort of place to treat casually on a first visit. Pick your parcel, confirm your map, and use designated parking only. Once that planning piece is handled, Scantic starts to feel much more approachable and much more rewarding.

No horses are provided, and the best first visit is usually the simplest one. Choose one section instead of trying to see everything, confirm current access before departure, and wear blaze orange in fall when hunting activity is part of the broader park landscape.

Where to stay

There is no camping at Scantic River State Park and no horse-oriented lodging infrastructure on site, so this is firmly a day-ride destination. It works best for riders who enjoy repeat visits and are willing to come back to sample different sections over time.
