Riverside State Park Equestrian Area

WA · Nine Mile Falls / Spokane Area

9711 W Charles Road

Riverside is one of the most complete equestrian destinations in Washington if you care about both trail time and horse-specific infrastructure. The broader park stretches along the Spokane and Little Spokane rivers, and the riding combines open Eastern Washington light with pine forest, rocky terrain, and wider landscape character than many west-side parks. It feels expansive, practical, and built for real use.

Highlights

This is eastern Washington’s fully built horse-park experience—serious amenities, true camping, and enough trail variety to justify a dedicated trip.

Riding

The horse-and-hiker-only trail system covers nine miles, then connects into larger mixed-use park mileage for riders who want more. That flexibility makes Riverside equally good for a controlled schooling weekend, a club outing, or a scenic ride with substance.

Rideable terrain

9 miles

Trailer parking

Dedicated equestrian day-use area includes parking, loading/unloading ramp, arena, obstacle course, and round pen.

Horse regulations

Horse access is concentrated in the designated equestrian area and approved park trails. Note that horseback riding is prohibited in the Little Spokane River Natural Area, so route planning matters more here than people sometimes expect.

Getting here

The equestrian zone is the reason to come prepared to stay a while. Riders get a loading ramp, dedicated day-use access, an obstacle course, a round pen, and an arena with announcer stand. In other words, the setup is not an afterthought—it is the destination.

Planning your visit

The equestrian campground is seasonal, and day-use access is weather dependent outside the main season. Reserve early for group plans, bring a Discover Pass, and study the park map so you do not accidentally drift into horse-restricted natural-area zones.

Where to stay

The equestrian campground is a major advantage. Campsites include corrals, and the area also has restrooms, a kitchen shelter, and enough infrastructure to support a genuinely comfortable horse-camping weekend. Guided trail rides are also offered in the park, which is why this is one of the few Washington entries where horses can be provided.
