Spokane River Centennial State Park Trail

WA · Spokane / Nine Mile Falls to Idaho line

c/o Riverside State Park, 9711 West Charles Road

The Centennial Trail is a different kind of equestrian destination—less backcountry, more corridor ride with variety, views, and reach. Following the Spokane River from Nine Mile Falls through the Spokane region and onward toward Idaho, the trail moves through ponderosa pine, basalt, river edges, parks, bridges, and city-linked landscapes. It is surprisingly layered and visually interesting.

Riding guide

Highlights

For riders who love the rhythm of a long corridor, the Centennial Trail offers river scenery and point-to-point possibility with an urban-meets-landscape twist.

Riding

The official trail is 40 miles long, but horse access is only available on certain portions, so this is more about selective section riding than uninterrupted point-to-point ambition. Handled that way, it can be an elegant mileage option with excellent forward movement.

Trailer parking

Use Riverside State Park and other appropriate trailheads for horse-legal segments; stage carefully because equestrian access is partial rather than continuous.

Horse regulations

Horses are allowed only on certain segments, and riders need to confirm those sections before committing to a route. Standard trail etiquette applies, and the mixed-use character means situational awareness is part of the experience.

Getting here

Because the route has numerous trailheads, the smartest approach is not to think of it as one giant haul-and-go ride, but as a choose-your-section destination. Riverside State Park is the obvious anchor for many riders and gives the best context for staging.

Planning your visit

This is a strong choice for riders who enjoy efficient conditioning miles and flexible section planning. Use maps, confirm horse-legal access points, and avoid assuming every mile of the corridor is equally suited to equestrian use.

Where to stay

The trail itself is day-use only, but nearby Spokane lodging, Riverside amenities, and urban convenience make it one of the easier Washington rides to pair with comfortable off-horse travel planning.
