Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail
WA · North Bend / Snoqualmie Pass to Idaho Corridor
19500 Cedar Falls Rd SE
The Palouse to Cascades Trail is for riders who are drawn to scope, history, and the romance of going far. Built on the old Milwaukee Road rail corridor, the route crosses environments that shift from the forested Cascades to open eastern Washington. That environmental variety gives the ride a rare sense of narrative—more journey than simple outing.

Highlights
This is Washington’s grand corridor ride—big history, big distance, and a sense of movement that feels more expedition than park loop.
Riding
At 251 miles overall, the PTCT is not a simple cross-state pleasure track; it is a segmented adventure corridor. For equestrians, that is part of the allure. You can choose more polished mileage in the west, then graduate to larger logistics as your appetite for expedition grows.

Trailer parking
Cedar Falls Trailhead is the classic west-side staging point; trailer use is easiest on selected sections with good surface and current access.
Horse regulations
Horses are allowed, but closures, washouts, missing trestles, ownership gaps, and seasonal restrictions are essential planning factors. The east section requires pre-registration, and the Snoqualmie Tunnel has winter closure dates riders need to respect.
Getting here
The west section from Cedar Falls is usually the cleanest first entry for riders because it is the most improved and easiest to understand. Staging from Cedar Falls lets you sample the trail's long-distance character without committing to its more remote complexity immediately.
Planning your visit
No Washington trail on this sheet rewards preparation more. Study the visitor map, verify current closures before hauling, and choose sections deliberately rather than assuming continuity where the corridor does not currently provide it.
Where to stay
This is a day-use trail, not a traditional horse-camp park, so comfort comes from smart shuttle planning, nearby lodging, or pairing the ride with separate overnight arrangements. The reward is the sense of scale rather than resort-style ease.
